Those who know me well also know that there are two great pianists in my head: Jerry Lee Lewis and Alan Price. I consider Alan Price as the most soulful blues pianist/keyboardist in the world. Just listen to “Worried life blues” or to “The house of the rising sun” and you will understand what I mean. Yesterday Anne and I had the pleasure to see Alan Price in concert in Brussels. As I have been following his career since his beginnings (with the Animals or with the Alan Price Set), I can assure you that, at the age of 69 he is still able to hit all the high notes he used to sing at the age of 24 and to play the keyboards with the same old unique dexterity! As to the members of his band, prepare yourself for a shock:

- the great Zoot Money plays the keyboards; yes, the same Zoot Money who played on several occasions with the original Animals (see for example the 1984 live album “Rip it to shreds”) or with the Eric Burdon and the Animals band (see the 1968 album “Love is”) ;

- Bobby Tench plays lead guitar. Some milestones: the great Bobby Tench had played with the “Jeff Beck Group” in 1971 as a vocalist while in July 1978 he joined the “Van Morrison Band” as a guitarist. At the end of 1979 Bobby moves on from the “Van Morrison band” and joins the “Eric Burdon Band” (see album “Darkness Darkness” which, just for the record, had been produced by Tony Meehan -from The Shadows J-);

- Peter Grant on the bass: when this guy plays a solo, you just gaze at him slack-jawed. N. B.: in the early 1980′s Peter Grant formed a band called “Top Secret” with his elder brother Steve which was signed up by original Animals bass player Chas Chandler. (Steve Grant also played in the above-mentioned album “Rip it to shreds”);

- Martin Wild on the drums: the most vivacious and the funniest drummer I’ve ever seen. Always laughing and executing funny solos including a maniac hitting of the high-hat hardware J . N.B.: in 1988 Martin Wild joins the David Knopfler Band (see the album “Lips Against The Steel”).

Ceux qui me connaissent bien savent également que je suis obsédé par la façon de jouer des  deux pianistes suivants: Jerry Lee Lewis et Alan Price. Je considère Alan Price comme le pianiste/keyboardiste le plus “soulful” (traduire ce mot en français lui enlèverait sa signification) au monde. Ecoutez le “Worried life blues” ou “The house of the rising sun” et vous comprendrez ce que je veux dire. Hier Anne et moi avons eu le plaisir de voir Alan Price en concert à Bruxelles. Comme j’ai suivi sa carrière depuis ses débuts (avec les Animals ou avec les Alan Price Set), je peux vous confirmer que, à l’âge de 69 ans, il est encore capable de chanter toutes les hautes notes qu’il chantait quand il avait 24 ans et de jouer au piano avec la même dextérité unique d’avant! Quant aux membres de son groupe, tenez vous bien:

- le grand Zoot Money joue le keyboard; oui ce même Zoot Money qui a joué à plusieurs reprises avec les Animals (voir par exemple l’album live de 1984 “Rip it to shreds”) ou avec le groupe Eric Burdon and the Animals (voir l’album “Love is” sorti en 1968) ;

- Bobby Tench joue la lead guitar. Quelques étapes importantes de son parcours musical: le grand Bobby Tench a joué avec le “Jeff Beck Group” en 1971 comme chanteur alors qu’en juillet 1978 il a rejoint le “Van Morrison Band” comme guitariste. A la fin de 1979 Bobby quitte le groupe de Van Morrison et rejoint le “Eric Burdon Band” (voir album “Darkness Darkness” qui, pour l’histoire, fut produit par Tony Meehan –premier batteur des Shadows J-);

- Peter Grant joue la basse: quand ce type joue un solo à la basse, on reste avec la bouche ouverte. N. B.: au début des années 80, Peter Grant a formé un groupe appelé “Top Secret” avec son frère ainé Steve, groupe dont le producteur fut le bassiste des Animals Chas Chandler. (Steve Grant a aussi joué dans l’album susmentionné “Rip it to shreds”);

- Martin Wild à la batterie: il s’agit du batteur le plus vif et le plus drôle que j’ai jamais vu. Tout le temps en train de rire et d’exécuter des solos fabuleux et drôles, y compris sa manie de donner des coups sur le hardware du charleston J . N.B.: en 1988 Martin Wild a rejoint le David Knopfler Band (voir l’album “Lips Against The Steel”).

Akis a toujours aimé les contes de fées; il adore également Anthony Hopkins; c’était donc tout naturel que je l’amène voir “Thor“. Une histoire très belle avec des acteurs hors-pair. A voir!

Juste une petite note, puisqu’il s’agit du tout premier film que nous avons eu l’occasion de voir en 3D. Et franchement, je n’ai pas trouvé que cette fameuse 3D avec laquelle on nous bassine tout le temps ait rajouté quoi que ce soit d’intéressant à la séance. En plus, nous en sommes sortis avec les yeux carrément fatigués…

Akis has always loved fairytails; he also loves Anthony Hopkins; it was therefore quite natural that I take him to see “Thor“. A beautiful story with terrific actors. A must-see!

Just a short note, as it was the very first movie we saw in 3D. And honestly, I didn’t find that this 3D thing they have been talking our ears off about added anything interesting to the movie. Add to that the fact that we left the theatre with very sore eyes…
