Alex's First Birthday

On January 10th we celebrated Alex's first birthday. Many of our friends, our parents, our best men and Alex's godfathers were present. We had a wonderful afternoon and Alex seemed very joyful and happy as he was the centre of attention of all of us. He played with his cousin Lilly and he blew out his first candle on his gorgeous piano birthday cake (see photos) with my help. We would like to warmly thank all of our friends and family for having been with us and for the numerous presents they gave Alex.

Le 10 janvier 2010 nous avons fêté le premier anniversaire d'Alex. Beaucoup de nos amis, nos parents et nos témoins de mariage et les parrains d'Alex étaient présents. Nous avons passé un excellent après-midi et Alex était très heureux comme il comprenait qu'il était le centre d'intérêt de la fête. Il a joué avec sa cousine Lilly et il a soufflé sa première bougie qui trônait sur son superbe gâteau d'anniversaire en forme de piano (voir photos) avec mon aide. Nous souhaitons remercier vivement tous nos amis et notre famille d'avoir fêté ça avec nous et pour les innombrables cadeaux qu'ils ont offerts à Alex.

Snow day! Jour de neige!

Today, it snowed in Brussels. A magnificent amount of snow. It was the first time that Alex saw the white stuff, and he LOVED it! I took him for a long walk at the park to celebrate.

11 months! 11 mois!

Yesterday, Alex was 11 months old. Ah, how time flies... The pediatrician said on Wednesday that our baby is "perfect"! He is now 78cm tall and weighs 10.7kg. He took his first two steps a few days ago, and has 4 teeth in his cute little mouth.

Hier, Alex a eu 11 mois. Ah, comme le temps passe vite... Le pédiatre a dit mercredi que notre bébé est "parfait"! Il mesure 78cm et pèse 10.7kg. Il a fait ses deux premiers pas il y a quelques jours, et a 4 dents dans sa jolie petite bouche.

Alexandros meets the legendary Kenny Lovelace, Jerry Lee Lewis's band leader!

Kenny Lovelace has been Jerry Lee Lewis's band leader for more than 42 years. I have attended six of his concerts, four of them with Anne. In November 2008, Alexandros was still in the belly of Anne but he had the honour to listen twice to Kenny's riffs and to Jerry Lee's unique banging and virtuoso way of playing the piano: first at Zénith (Paris) and then at Forest National (Brussels).

Well, yesterday Alexandros had the pleasure and the privilege to have his lunch with Kenny Lovelace in a restaurant in Rotterdam. Mr Lovelace is one of the most lovable persons we've ever met and played a lot with our baby!

Please note that the last personal CD of Kenny Lovelace is excellent. Buy it! It is rumoured that a new one will be out soon...

Eh bien hier, Alexandros a eu le plaisir et le privilège d'avoir son repas avec Kenny Lovelace dans un restaurant à Rotterdam. Mr Lovelace est une des personnes les plus adorables que nous ayons connu et a joué beaucoup avec notre bébé!

A noter: le dernier CD personnel de Kenny Lovelace est excellent! Achetez le! Il semblerait qu'un nouveau CD sorte bientôt...

Yesterday Alex gave his very first concert. He may be only 76cm and 10kg, but believe me, he really rocks the place!

9 months! 9 mois!

Alexandros is 9 months and 4 days old. He's spent about as much time on the outside as he had on the inside ;-) He's got his first proper pair of shoes, as he loves standing up on his own and walking along the furniture.

Alexandros a 9 mois et 4 jours. Il a passé à peu près autant de temps dehors qu'il en avait passé dedans ;-) Il a sa première vraie paire de chaussures, car il adore se mettre debout tout seul et se promener le long des meubles.

Alexandros: Statistics - Statistiques

This morning, we saw the nice pediatrician for Alex's monthly visit. He now weighs 9.2 kg for 75 cm. The doctor said he's in fabulous shape.

Ce matin, nous avons vu le gentil pédiatre pour la visite mensuelle d'Alex. Il pèse maintenant 9.2 kg pour 75 cm. Le docteur a dit qu'il est en parfaite santé.

8 months! 8 mois!

Today, Alexandros is 8 months old. And what a big boy he has become! He is now crawling on all fours all around the apartment, and enjoying his red convertible walker a LOT!

Aujourd'hui, Alexandros a 8 mois. Et quel grand garçon il est devenu! Il se promène maintenant à quatre pattes dans tout l'appartement, et profite BEAUCOUP de sa décapotable-trotteur rouge!

Joueuse

Tonight, we left Alexandros with his grandparents who were more than happy to baby-sit. We have had the opportunity to see « Joueuse » with Sandrine Bonnaire. A film on chess, intelligence and willpower. Strong-willed people can undertake almost everything. Anne declared that she would like to start to play chess with me again, looooool.
We also went to a Japanese restaurant « Shogun ». Try it! They even prepare your meal in front of you!

Ce soir nous avons laissé Alexandros chez les parents de Anne qui étaient plus qu’heureux de le babysitter. Nous avons eu l’occasion de voir le film « Joueuse » avec Sandrine Bonnaire. Un film sur le jeu d’échecs, l’intelligence et la volonté. Les personnes qui ont de la volonté peuvent entreprendre presque tout. Anne a déclaré qu’elle voudrait recommencer à jouer aux échecs avec moi, loooool.
Nous avons aussi été à un restaurant japonais, le « Shogun ». A essayer absolument ! Ils préparent votre repas sous vos yeux !

Inglorious Basterds

Tonight, thanks to our friends Jean and Mariane who have been kind enough to babysit Alexandros, we have been able to go to the cinema in Antwerp. It seems that Alexandros has been an angel.
We saw « Inglorious Basterds » which is a dark and violent film. But Tarantino, faithful to himself, has created a great comedy. I bet the actors have certainly had a very good time during the filming especially during the scalping of dead Nazis. While Brad Pitt (Lt. Aldo Raine) is as good as in most of his films, you can hardly imagine a better actor than Christoph Waltz (Col. Hans Landa) in the role of « The Jew Hunter ».

Ce soir, grâce à nos amis Jean et Mariane qui ont eu la gentillesse de babysitter Alexandros, nous avons pu aller au cinéma à Anvers. Il semble qu'Alexandros fut un ange.
Nous avons vu « Inglorious Basterds » qui est un film noir et violent. Mais Tarantino, fidèle à lui-même, a créé une grande comédie. Je parie que les acteurs se sont certainement beaucoup bidonnés pendant le tournage et plus particulièrement pendant les séances de scalpation des Nazis morts. Alors que Brad Pitt (Lt. Aldo Raine) est aussi bon que dans la plupart de ses films, on peut à peine imaginer un meilleur acteur que Christoph Waltz (Col. Hans Landa) dans le rôle « Du Chasseur de Juifs ».

Tricheuse

I’ve always found that Zinedine Soualem is a good actor. This time I had the pleasure to see him as a protagonist in the film « Tricheuse ». As Anne said, during the first 10 minutes of the film we’re not quite sure where it wants to lead us, but once the scenario is launched we are taken away in a funny, foreseeable story but which stands up to scrutiny.
Concerning baby-sitting, Alexandros didn’t leave my father alone for a minute. He wanted always to be in his arms. After all it is understandable: it’s in the evening that he needs company the most. Babies never look forward to the end of the day…

J’ai toujours trouvé que Zinedine Soualem est un bon acteur. Cette fois-ci j’ai eu le plaisir de le voir comme protagoniste dans le film « Tricheuse ». Comme le dit Anne, pendant les 10 premières minutes du film on n’est pas très sûr de ce qu’on va voir mais une fois le scénario lancé on se trouve emporté dans une histoire drôle, prévisible mais qui tient la route.
Côté baby-sitting, Alexandros n’a pas lâché mon père d’une semelle. Il voulait être toujours dans les bras. Après tout c’est compréhensible : c’est le soir qu’il a le plus besoin de compagnie. Les bébés redoutent la fin de la journée…

Bancs Publics (Versailles Rive Droite)

« Bancs Publics » is the craziest film of all times. I’ve never seen such a film. Hilarious. Very good actors. Anne wishes to buy the dvd as soon as possible in order to see it every time she’ll need to shake with laughter. We had a very good evening.
Alexandros and my father also spent a good evening full of bottle-feeding. My father seemed tired. Hm, Alex you are sticking to your reputation eh?

« Bancs Publics » est le film le plus loufoque de tous les temps. Je n’ai jamais vu un tel film. Hilarant. Très bons acteurs. Anne veut acheter le dvd dès qu’il sortira pour le mettre dès qu’elle aura envie d’une bouffée de fou rire. Nous avons passé une très bonne soirée.
Alexandros et mon père ont aussi passé une bonne soirée pleine de biberons. Mon père semblait fatigué. Hm, Alex tu tiens à ta réputation eh ?

Le Hérisson

Tonight we went to see « Le Hérisson » with Josiane Balasko. It seems that this time Alexandros was very kind with my father who succeeded in watching his favorite DVD thriller. We have to have a serious conversation with Alex on this: his reputation as a tough baby could be compromised!
So, about « Le Hérisson »: Anne loved the film. She was moved and declared that she is going to buy the collector dvd as soon as it will come out in the market. I agree it is a very captivating film full of humanity. And the actors are perfect!

Ce soir nous sommes allés voir « Le Hérisson » avec Josiane Balasko. Il semble que cette fois-ci Alexandros ait été très gentil avec mon père qui a réussi à regarder son dvd, un thriller qu’il aime particulièrement. Je sens que nous devons avoir une sérieuse conversation avec Alex sur ça : sa réputation de bébé difficile risque d’être compromise !
Concernant “Le Hérisson” maintenant : Anne a adoré le film. Elle était émue et a annoncé qu’elle va acheter le dvd collector de ce film dès qu’il sera commercialisé. Je suis tout à fait d’accord qu’il s’agit d’un film captivant, plein d’humanité. Et les acteurs sont parfaits !

7 months! - 7 mois!

Today, Alexandros is 7 months old. No stats today, we are visiting the pediatrician next Monday only. As you can see from the video below, he has finally outgrown his little swing set. So we've put it away, and replaced it with a fabulous red and yellow car!

Aujourd'hui, Alexandros a 7 mois. Pas de statistiques aujourd'hui, nous ne verrons le pédiâtre que lundi prochain. Comme vous pouvez le constater sur la vidéo ci-dessous, il est devenu trop grand pour sa balancelle. Nous l'avons donc rangée, et remplacée par une magnifique voiture rouge et jaune!

Public Enemies

Yes! Alexandros pissed my father off for the second evening while Anne and I went to the cinema to see « Public Enemies ». He didn’t let him watch the DVD I had prepared for him, he cried almost all time and my father remembered the good old days I used to piss him off when I was a baby. He admitted that I was tough as a child but underlined that Alex is “worse”. Very amusing! I secretly congratulated Alex. Yeah, go boy go! Show him what his grandchild can do. Good boy loooool.
So, the plot of this excellent gangsters’ film: the Feds try to take down notorious American gangsters John Dillinger, Baby Face Nelson and Pretty Boy Floyd during a booming crime wave in the 1930s. In the middle of that, a love story between John Dillinger and Billie Frechette. Johnny Depp succeeds not only in getting all of the attention (that’s normal, he’s the main character, Dillinger) but also in getting the sympathy of the audience. He is the bad guy but he is the protagonist, not the antagonist, the latter being the sum of the Feds headed by Melvin Purvis. And it’s amazing, Purvis is supposed to be the real hero but when he (Christian Bale) wins the battle against crime (Dillinger), we feel sorry for Dillinger. I guess this means that Michael Mann succeeded in creating a great piece of film art…

Oui ! Alexandros a fait chier mon père pour le deuxième soir consécutif alors que Anne et moi sommes allés au cinéma voir « Ennemis publics ». Il ne l’a pas laissé voir le DVD que je lui avais préparé, il a pleuré presque tout le temps et mon père s'est souvenu du bon vieux temps où j’avais l'habitude de le faire chier quand j'étais bébé. Il a admis que j'étais difficile comme enfant mais il a souligné qu'Alex est «pire». Très amusant! J’ai félicité secrètement Alex. Oui, vas-y mon garçon ! Montre à ton grand-père ce que son petit-fils peut faire. Bien mon garçon! Lol.
Donc, ce que raconte cet excellent film de gangsters: les Fédéraux essayent de coincer des gangsters américains notoires tels que John Dillinger, Baby Face Nelson et Pretty Boy Floyd pendant une vague de crime en plein essor dans les années 1930. Au milieu de tout cela, il y a une histoire d'amour entre John Dillinger et Billie Frechette. Johnny Depp réussit non seulement à captiver toute l'attention de la salle (ça c’est normal, il est le personnage principal, Dillinger) mais à obtenir également la sympathie de l'auditoire. The Taking Of Pelham 1 2 3

Yeah!!! My father is here in Brussels for 10 days and guess what? We decided that he is going to babysit every 2 days so we can go to the cinema! So, tonight, we saw « The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 », a good remake of the 1974 thriller. Back in 1974 we had Walter Matthau vs. Robert Shaw while now we had the pleasure to see Denzel Washington facing John Travolta. What did we learn out of this violent story? To sell actions, currencies, anything…, then to create an artificial financial crisis by placing a bomb, a mortal virus somewhere…, and finally, as soon as this creates an artificial financial crisis, to repurchase at low prices what one has just sold. By the way, can you lend us some money to buy some actions? We’ll keep you informed about the outcome of our scheming…

Oui !!! mon père est ici à Bruxelles pour 10 jours et devinez quoi ? Nous avons décidé qu'il va babysitter tous les 2 jours ainsi nous pouvons aller au cinéma! Ainsi, ce soir, nous avons vu « L'attaque du métro 1 2 3 » un bon remake d’un thriller de 1974. What a big boy! Quel grand garçon!

As from today, our darling Alexandros is now eating a solid meal for lunch. Today was a first, he wasn't too sure of what he was doing (and we weren't either, for that matter!), but he's a fast learner, and I'm sure he'll soon master the spoon :-)

Depuis aujourd'hui, notre cher petit Alexandros mange un repas solide à midi. Aujourd'hui était une grande première, il n'était pas très sûr de ce qu'il faisait 'et nous non plus, d'ailleurs!), mais il apprend vite, et sera, j'en suis sûr, bientôt le maître de la cuillère :-)

Easter 2009 in Greece - Pâques 2009 en Grèce

It seems to have become a tradition for us to go to Greece for Easter. So, our little family packed up and went for a two-week vacation, first in Athens, and then in Delphi, from 9 to 24 April. We introduced our little angel to many friends and relatives, did some shopping, acted like tourists at times, and enjoyed the celebrations and parties. It was great!

Il semblerait que ce soit une tradition pour nous d'aller en Grèce à Pâques. Notre petite famille a donc fait ses bagages et nous nous sommes rendus pour deux semaines à Athènes puis à Delphes, du 9 au 24 avril. Nous avons présenté notre petit ange à de nombreux amis et membres de la famille, nous avons fait du shopping, nous nous sommes promenés comme des touristes à l'occasion, et nous avons profité des fêtes et célébrations. C'était génial!

Three months! Trois mois!

Today, Alexandros is 3 months old. He weighs 5kg700 for 62cm. He's growing at a good rate! We paid a visit to Vassilis, our photographer friend in Athens, who took a beautiful series of pictures (below).

Paris

From March 28 to 31, the three of us were in Paris. We walked around the city, took some buses with Alexandros for the first time, and took some tourist pictures in front of the Eiffel Tower. On March 31st, Akis and I celebrated our second wedding anniversary!

Du 28 au 31 mars, nous étions tous les trois à Paris. Nous nous sommes promenés dans la ville, avons pris le bus avec Alexandros pour la première fois, et pris des photos devant la Tour Eiffel. Le 31 mars, Akis et moi fêtions notre second anniversaire de mariage!

Today, Alexandros is one month old. Has it been that long already? Wow! He has grown a whole lot and is now 54cm and 3kg720. Yes, your calculations are correct, he has grown 5cm in his first month!

Guess who's coming for dinner! Devine qui vient dîner!

As most of you have found out by now, we are expecting a new addition to our little family, somewhere in the first half of January 2009. We are extremely excited about it, as you can imagine! The pregnancy is going really well.


Comme la plupart d'entre vous l'ont déjà découvert, nous attendons un ajout à notre petite famille, vers la première moitié de janvier 2009. Nous en sommes très heureux, comme vous pouvez l'imaginer! La grossesse se déroule à merveille.
