Crazy heart

Tonight we went to the movies and we saw "Crazy heart". When you go to a movie with Jeff Bridges, Robert Duvall and Colin Farrell, and when this film has a nice script and some fine country music, you almost have a guarantee that you'll see a good movie. Bridges and Farrell sing themselves those nice songs composed by T-Bone Burnett and they have, especially Bridges, good country voices! Anne, who likes country music, even said she will buy the film's soundtrack! As for me, despite the fact I like and play blues/rock, I left the cinema regretting I've never played this kind of music...

Ce soir nous sommes allés voir "Crazy heart". Quand on va voir un film avec Jeff Bridges, Robert Duvall et Colin Farrell, et quand ce film a un bon scénario et quelques beaux morceaux de musique country, on a presque une garantie qu'on verra un bon film. Bridges et Farrell chantent eux mêmes les belles chansons composées par T-Bone Burnett et ils ont, en particulier Bridges, de belles voix country! Anne, qui aime la musique country, a même annoncé qu'elle achètera la bande originale du film! Quand à moi qui aime et joue du blues/rock, je suis sorti du cinéma en regrettant le fait que je n'ai jamais joué ce style de musique...

Invictus

Mr Nobody

Tonight we went to the movies and saw "Mr. Nobody". Despite the fact that this film is a wonderful fairy tale it also draws us into a deep reflection on the choices we make in our lives. To see.

Ce soir nous sommes allés au cinéma et nous avons vu "Mr. Nobody". Ce film est en même temps un superbe conte de fées et une réflexion profonde sur les choix que nous faisons dans nos vies. A voir.

Sherlock Holmes

Tonight we saw our first movie in 2010. Sherlock Holmes is a modern version of the legend of the famous English detective. Robert Downey Jr. (Sherlock Holmes) and Jude Law (Dr. John Watson) are different from the characters of the books we have read but their new style (a lively, sometimes violent and constant confrontation accompanied by a deep friendship) is very convincing. As for Mark Strong, he is really frightening in the role of Lord Blackwood. A very good action movie by Guy Ritchie. To see.

Ce soir nous avons vu notre premier film en 2010. Sherlock Holmes est une version moderne de la légende du célèbre détective anglais. Robert Downey Jr. (Sherlock Holmes) et Jude Law (Dr. John Watson) sont differents des caractères que nous avons connus dans les livres mais leur nouveau style (une confrontation constante, vive et parfois violente) est très convaincant. Quant à Mark Strong, il est vraiment effrayant dans le rôle de Lord Blackwood. Un très bon film d'action de Guy Ritchie. A voir.

Oscar et la dame rose

While in November 2008 we saw the amazing Jacqueline Bir in the beautiful play by Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt "Oscar et la dame rose", yesterday evening we had the pleasure to see the film version, with slight changes from the book. A beautiful film; almost a modern fairy tale. Michèle Laroque, Amir and Max von Sydow in the roles of Rose, Oscar and Dr. Düsseldorf respectively are perfect. My mother would have loved the film; she admired Max von Sydow a lot...

Alors qu'en novembre 2008, nous vîmes la magnifique Jacqueline Bir dans la superbe pièce d'Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt "Oscar et la dame rose", hier soir nous avons eu le plaisir d'en voir la version cinématographique, légèrement différente du livre. Un beau film; presque un conte de fées moderne. Michèle Laroque, Amir and Max von Sydow dans les roles de Rose, d'Oscar and du Dr. Düsseldorf respectivement sont parfaits. Ma mère aurait adoré ce film; elle admirait beaucoup Max von Sydow...

Loup

Tonight we went to the movies and saw the new masterpiece of Nicolas Vanier, the specialist of cold and permanent snow: "Loup". This film was made in East Siberia under extremely difficult climate conditions. Anne and I found once again the same feelings of bliss and excitement we felt during our honeymoon in the cold areas of Québec (Canada), as when we went dogsledding.

Ce soir nous sommes allés voir le nouveau chef d'œuvre du spécialiste du froid et des neiges éternelles, Nicolas Vanier: "Loup". Ce film fut tourné en Sibérie orientale dans des conditions climatiques extrêmement difficiles. Anne et moi avons retrouvé les mêmes sentiments de béatitude et d'excitation que nous avions ressenti pendant notre voyage de noces qui a eu lieu aux étendues froides du Québec (Canada), comme lorsque nous avons fait du traineau à chiens.

R.T.T.

Tonight we went to the cinema and we saw "R.T.T.": a good entertainment with Kad Merad as good as usual.

Ce soir nous sommes allés au cinéma pour voir "R.T.T.": un bon divertissement avec Kad Merad qui est aussi bon que d'habitude.

Le concert

"Le concert": an efficient Radu Mihaileanu film that borders on the sublime. It is the film we saw tonight. Humour, sad and happy feelings, all this passing through the magnificent Tchaïkovski's concerto for violin in D major op. 35. It's not rock but it rocked me a lot! And the ideas of the positive imposture and of the concert's metaphor concerning the relationship between an individual and the collectivity are great.

"Le concert": un film efficace de Radu Mihaileanu qui touche le sublime. C'est le film que nous avons vu ce soir. Humour, sentiments tristes et heureux, tout cela à travers le magnifique concerto pour violon en ré majeur, op. 35, de Tchaïkovski. Ce n'est pas du rock mais il m'a beaucoup secoué! Et les idées de l'imposture positive et de la métaphore du concert concernant les rapports entre l'individu et la collectivité sont excellentes.

Le vilain

Yesterday evening we went to the cinema and saw "Le vilain", a brilliant comedy made by and with Albert Dupontel. There is nothing to say, Catherine Frot and Albert Dupontel are perfect. Hilarious! Go and see it urgently!

Hier soir nous sommes allés au cinéma and nous avons vu "Le vilain", une brillante comédie de et avec Albert Dupontel. Il n'y a rien à dire, Catherine Frot et Albert Dupontel sont parfaits. Allez voir ce film hilarant d'urgence!

The box

If someone gave you a box with a button on it and told you that if you push it two things will happen: on the one hand a person that you do not know will die but on the other hand you will win 1 million dollars, would you push the button? This completely pessimistic film (The Box) supposes that most of the people on earth would do it because they lack altruistic feelings. I believe the opposite and that’s why I did not like this film. The actors are good but as Anne said, the science fiction part of the film is overweighed in comparison to the intellectual work that the characters of the film should have delivered on such a delicate subject.

Si quelqu’un vous donnait une boite équipée d’un bouton et vous disait que si vous appuyez sur celui-ci deux choses vont arriver : d’un côté une personne que vous ne connaissez pas mourra et de l’autre côté vous gagnerez 1 million de dollars, pousseriez-vous sur le bouton ? Ce film (The box), qui est complètement pessimiste, suppose que la plupart des personnes qui vivent sur cette planète l’auraient fait car ils ne sont pas altruistes. Je crois le contraire et c’est pour ça que je n’ai pas aimé ce film. Les acteurs sont bons, mais comme Anne le fait remarquer, la partie science fiction du film est surdimensionnée par rapport au travail intellectuel auquel les protagonistes de ce film auraient dû se livrer dans le cadre d’un sujet si délicat.

Le Ruban blanc

Tonight we went to see a film which sounds the alarm against all extremisms.
The director, Michael Haneke, seeks the roots of evil which can sometimes emerge even through the will to do well. People who wish the situation would change but do not conceive well what has to be changed risk being engaged in a process which can turn out to be dangerous. When one suffers, when one is humiliated, one would do anything: including adopting the perverted ideas of those who, wanting to take advantage of the situation, pretend to be reformers by creating ideologies which find their justification in scapegoat designation.
The director also seeks to emphasise the collective responsibility: environment can ease extremism. As he confides on the occasion of an interview (Le Monde, October 21st 2009): "I always observe the same process: humiliation, an ideology which takes hold of this suffering, and the hope that this ideology will put an end to this suffering. « Le Ruban blanc » is a film on all extremisms, whether they are right-wing or left-wing ». Michael Haneke has chosen to demonstrate all of the above through the education of children. And I strongly believe he is right.

Ce soir nous sommes allés voir un film qui tire la sonnette d’alarme contre tous les extrémismes.
Le réalisateur, Michael Haneke, cherche les racines du mal qui peuvent parfois surgir même à travers la volonté de faire du bien. Les gens qui souhaitent que la situation change mais qui ne conçoivent pas bien ce qui doit être changé risquent de s’engager dans un processus qui peut s’avérer dangereux. Quand on souffre, quand on est humilié, on est prêt à tout : y compris à adopter les idées perverties de ceux qui, voulant profiter de la situation, s’affichent comme des réformateurs en créant des idéologies qui trouvent leur justification dans la désignation de boucs émissaires.
Le réalisateur cherche aussi à mettre l’emphase sur la responsabilité collective : l’environnement peut rendre possible l’extrémisme. Comme il le confie lors d’un entretien (Le Monde, 21 octobre 2009) : « J’observe toujours le même processus : l’humiliation, une idéologie qui s’empare de cette souffrance, et l’espoir que l’idéologie y mettra fin. « Le Ruban blanc » est un film sur tous les extrémismes, de droite ou de gauche ». Michael Haneke a choisi de faire la demonstration de tout ça à travers l'éducation des enfants. Et je crois fortement qu'il a raison.

L'affaire Farewell

Cold war again and again and again. Tonight we saw "L'affaire Farewell", a true fictionalised story of an exceptional spy that President Reagan even described as "spy of the century". This Soviet mole, the code name of which was Farewell, succeeded in fooling the KGB by delivering thousands of strategic documents to France and thus contributed to precipitating the dismantling of the iron curtain. The multi-talented Emir Kusturica and Guillaume Canet are part of the assets of this film.

Guerre froide encore et encore et encore. Nous venons de voir "L'affaire Farewell", vraie histoire romancée d'un espion hors du commun que le président Reagan qualifia même "d'espion du siècle". Cette taupe soviétique, dont le nom de code était Farewell, a réussi à berner le KGB en livrant des milliers de documents stratégiques à la France et a ainsi contribué à précipiter le démantèlement du rideau de fer. Le multi-talentueux Emir Kusturica et Guillaume Canet font partie des atouts de ce film.

Victor

I've always liked Pierre Richard. Tonight we had the pleasure to see him in the role of "Victor", a seventy-five year old liar, crook, malicious but nice-hearted person who succeeds in being adopted by a family. Quite original and good-humoured plot.

J'ai toujours aimé Pierre Richard. Ce soir, nous avons eu le plaisir de le voir dans le rôle de "Victor", un vieux de soixante-quinze ans qui, bien que menteur, escroc et suffisamment malin pour tromper son entourage au point de se faire adopter par une famille, a un bon coeur. Scénario amusant et assez original.

Le petit Nicolas

Tonight we went to the cinema and saw “Le petit Nicolas” which is the cinematographic adaptation of a youth's literature character imagined in 1959 by René Goscinny and illustrated by Jean-Jacques Sempé. The young actors are perfect in their respective elfin roles and Valérie Lemercier, Kad Merad, Daniel Prévost, Michel Galabru and Anémone are faithful to themselves. You will laugh from the beginning to the end. This film is a true delight and sent Anne back on a trip to her childhood.

Ce soir nous avons vu au cinéma “Le petit Nicolas”, adaptation cinématographique d’un personnage de littérature de jeunesse imaginé en 1959 par René Goscinny et illustré par Jean-Jacques Sempé. Les jeunes acteurs sont parfaits dans leurs rôles malicieux respectifs et Valérie Lemercier, Kad Merad, Daniel Prévost, Michel Galabru et Anémone sont fidèles à eux-mêmes. Vous allez rire du début à la fin. Ce film est un vrai délice et a renvoyé Anne en voyage vers son enfance.

L'armée du crime

Tonight we saw «L'armée du crime», a Robert Guédiguian film. Once again, you can see that people who have a common goal can forget their differences based on culture, origins, language, beliefs, political commitments, etc… and put together their skills to reach their objective. Once again, this film reminds us that French resistance during World War II was a multi-ethnic one. « Army of Crime » is the true story of exiled Armenian poet Missak Manouchian and his resistance network made up by Jews, Hungarians, Poles, Roumanians, Spanish and Italians who considered themselves as Parisians. A good film.

Ce soir, nous avons vu «L'armée du crime», un fil de Robert Guédiguian. Une fois de plus, on peut voir que des personnes ayant un objectif commun peuvent oublier leurs différences de culture, d'origine, de langue, de croyances, d'appartenance politique, etc... et associer leurs connaissances pour atteindre leur objectif. Une fois de plus, ce film nous rappelle que la Résistence française durant le Seconde Guerre Mondiale était une Résistence multi-ethnique. "L'armée du crime" est l'histoire vraie du poète arménien exilé Missak Manouchian et de son réseau de Résistence composé de juifs, de hongrois, de polonais, de roumains, d'espagnols et d'italiens qui se considéraient comme parisiens. Un bon film.

Le Coach

Tonight we went to the cinema and saw « Le Coach » with Jean-Paul Rouve and Richard Berry. A must watch comedy. Go coach yourself to success loool!

Joueuse

Tonight, we left Alexandros with his grandparents who were more than happy to baby-sit. We have had the opportunity to see « Joueuse » with Sandrine Bonnaire. A film on chess, intelligence and willpower. Strong-willed people can undertake almost everything. Anne declared that she would like to start to play chess with me again, looooool.
We also went to a Japanese restaurant « Shogun ». Try it! They even prepare your meal in front of you!

Ce soir nous avons laissé Alexandros chez les parents de Anne qui étaient plus qu’heureux de le babysitter. Nous avons eu l’occasion de voir le film « Joueuse » avec Sandrine Bonnaire. Un film sur le jeu d’échecs, l’intelligence et la volonté. Les personnes qui ont de la volonté peuvent entreprendre presque tout. Anne a déclaré qu’elle voudrait recommencer à jouer aux échecs avec moi, loooool.
Nous avons aussi été à un restaurant japonais, le « Shogun ». A essayer absolument ! Ils préparent votre repas sous vos yeux !

Inglorious Basterds

Tonight, thanks to our friends Jean and Mariane who have been kind enough to babysit Alexandros, we have been able to go to the cinema in Antwerp. It seems that Alexandros has been an angel.
We saw « Inglorious Basterds » which is a dark and violent film. But Tarantino, faithful to himself, has created a great comedy. I bet the actors have certainly had a very good time during the filming especially during the scalping of dead Nazis. While Brad Pitt (Lt. Aldo Raine) is as good as in most of his films, you can hardly imagine a better actor than Christoph Waltz (Col. Hans Landa) in the role of « The Jew Hunter ».

Ce soir, grâce à nos amis Jean et Mariane qui ont eu la gentillesse de babysitter Alexandros, nous avons pu aller au cinéma à Anvers. Il semble qu'Alexandros fut un ange.
Nous avons vu « Inglorious Basterds » qui est un film noir et violent. Mais Tarantino, fidèle à lui-même, a créé une grande comédie. Je parie que les acteurs se sont certainement beaucoup bidonnés pendant le tournage et plus particulièrement pendant les séances de scalpation des Nazis morts. Alors que Brad Pitt (Lt. Aldo Raine) est aussi bon que dans la plupart de ses films, on peut à peine imaginer un meilleur acteur que Christoph Waltz (Col. Hans Landa) dans le rôle « Du Chasseur de Juifs ».

Tricheuse

I’ve always found that Zinedine Soualem is a good actor. This time I had the pleasure to see him as a protagonist in the film « Tricheuse ». As Anne said, during the first 10 minutes of the film we’re not quite sure where it wants to lead us, but once the scenario is launched we are taken away in a funny, foreseeable story but which stands up to scrutiny.
Concerning baby-sitting, Alexandros didn’t leave my father alone for a minute. He wanted always to be in his arms. After all it is understandable: it’s in the evening that he needs company the most. Babies never look forward to the end of the day…

J’ai toujours trouvé que Zinedine Soualem est un bon acteur. Cette fois-ci j’ai eu le plaisir de le voir comme protagoniste dans le film « Tricheuse ». Comme le dit Anne, pendant les 10 premières minutes du film on n’est pas très sûr de ce qu’on va voir mais une fois le scénario lancé on se trouve emporté dans une histoire drôle, prévisible mais qui tient la route.
Côté baby-sitting, Alexandros n’a pas lâché mon père d’une semelle. Il voulait être toujours dans les bras. Après tout c’est compréhensible : c’est le soir qu’il a le plus besoin de compagnie. Les bébés redoutent la fin de la journée…

Bancs Publics (Versailles Rive Droite)

« Bancs Publics » is the craziest film of all times. I’ve never seen such a film. Hilarious. Very good actors. Anne wishes to buy the dvd as soon as possible in order to see it every time she’ll need to shake with laughter. We had a very good evening.
Alexandros and my father also spent a good evening full of bottle-feeding. My father seemed tired. Hm, Alex you are sticking to your reputation eh?

« Bancs Publics » est le film le plus loufoque de tous les temps. Je n’ai jamais vu un tel film. Hilarant. Très bons acteurs. Anne veut acheter le dvd dès qu’il sortira pour le mettre dès qu’elle aura envie d’une bouffée de fou rire. Nous avons passé une très bonne soirée.
Alexandros et mon père ont aussi passé une bonne soirée pleine de biberons. Mon père semblait fatigué. Hm, Alex tu tiens à ta réputation eh ?

Le Hérisson

Tonight we went to see « Le Hérisson » with Josiane Balasko. It seems that this time Alexandros was very kind with my father who succeeded in watching his favorite DVD thriller. We have to have a serious conversation with Alex on this: his reputation as a tough baby could be compromised!
So, about « Le Hérisson »: Anne loved the film. She was moved and declared that she is going to buy the collector dvd as soon as it will come out in the market. I agree it is a very captivating film full of humanity. And the actors are perfect!

Ce soir nous sommes allés voir « Le Hérisson » avec Josiane Balasko. Il semble que cette fois-ci Alexandros ait été très gentil avec mon père qui a réussi à regarder son dvd, un thriller qu’il aime particulièrement. Je sens que nous devons avoir une sérieuse conversation avec Alex sur ça : sa réputation de bébé difficile risque d’être compromise !
Concernant “Le Hérisson” maintenant : Anne a adoré le film. Elle était émue et a annoncé qu’elle va acheter le dvd collector de ce film dès qu’il sera commercialisé. Je suis tout à fait d’accord qu’il s’agit d’un film captivant, plein d’humanité. Et les acteurs sont parfaits !

Public Enemies

Yes! Alexandros pissed my father off for the second evening while Anne and I went to the cinema to see « Public Enemies ». He didn’t let him watch the DVD I had prepared for him, he cried almost all time and my father remembered the good old days I used to piss him off when I was a baby. He admitted that I was tough as a child but underlined that Alex is “worse”. Very amusing! I secretly congratulated Alex. Yeah, go boy go! Show him what his grandchild can do. Good boy loooool.
So, the plot of this excellent gangsters’ film: the Feds try to take down notorious American gangsters John Dillinger, Baby Face Nelson and Pretty Boy Floyd during a booming crime wave in the 1930s. In the middle of that, a love story between John Dillinger and Billie Frechette. Johnny Depp succeeds not only in getting all of the attention (that’s normal, he’s the main character, Dillinger) but also in getting the sympathy of the audience. He is the bad guy but he is the protagonist, not the antagonist, the latter being the sum of the Feds headed by Melvin Purvis. And it’s amazing, Purvis is supposed to be the real hero but when he (Christian Bale) wins the battle against crime (Dillinger), we feel sorry for Dillinger. I guess this means that Michael Mann succeeded in creating a great piece of film art…

Oui ! Alexandros a fait chier mon père pour le deuxième soir consécutif alors que Anne et moi sommes allés au cinéma voir « Ennemis publics ». Il ne l’a pas laissé voir le DVD que je lui avais préparé, il a pleuré presque tout le temps et mon père s'est souvenu du bon vieux temps où j’avais l'habitude de le faire chier quand j'étais bébé. Il a admis que j'étais difficile comme enfant mais il a souligné qu'Alex est «pire». Très amusant! J’ai félicité secrètement Alex. Oui, vas-y mon garçon ! Montre à ton grand-père ce que son petit-fils peut faire. Bien mon garçon! Lol.
Donc, ce que raconte cet excellent film de gangsters: les Fédéraux essayent de coincer des gangsters américains notoires tels que John Dillinger, Baby Face Nelson et Pretty Boy Floyd pendant une vague de crime en plein essor dans les années 1930. Au milieu de tout cela, il y a une histoire d'amour entre John Dillinger et Billie Frechette. Johnny Depp réussit non seulement à captiver toute l'attention de la salle (ça c’est normal, il est le personnage principal, Dillinger) mais à obtenir également la sympathie de l'auditoire. The Taking Of Pelham 1 2 3

Yeah!!! My father is here in Brussels for 10 days and guess what? We decided that he is going to babysit every 2 days so we can go to the cinema! So, tonight, we saw « The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 », a good remake of the 1974 thriller. Back in 1974 we had Walter Matthau vs. Robert Shaw while now we had the pleasure to see Denzel Washington facing John Travolta. What did we learn out of this violent story? To sell actions, currencies, anything…, then to create an artificial financial crisis by placing a bomb, a mortal virus somewhere…, and finally, as soon as this creates an artificial financial crisis, to repurchase at low prices what one has just sold. By the way, can you lend us some money to buy some actions? We’ll keep you informed about the outcome of our scheming…

Oui !!! mon père est ici à Bruxelles pour 10 jours et devinez quoi ? Nous avons décidé qu'il va babysitter tous les 2 jours ainsi nous pouvons aller au cinéma! Ainsi, ce soir, nous avons vu « L'attaque du métro 1 2 3 » un bon remake d’un thriller de 1974. En 1974 nous avons eu Walter Matthau contre Robert Shaw tandis que maintenant nous avons eu le plaisir de voir Denzel Washington faire face à John Travolta. Qu'est-ce que nous avons appris par cette violente histoire? A propos, pouvez-vous nous prêter un peu de sous pour acheter des actions? Nous vous tiendrons au courant des résultats de nos magouilles…

Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince

I don’t remember if we have posted a comment on our passion concerning J.K. Rowling’s creation but, yes, I confirm that Anne and I are fascinated by Harry Potter’s adventures. We have read the 7 books countless times (in English, in French and in Greek) and you do understand that we couldn’t miss the 6th opus of the Harry Potter movies. So, tonight, we went to see « Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince » at the cinema. A great performance by most of the actors. “Won-Won” is hilarious, while Professor Snape’s glance is icier than ever. Maybe the best out of the 6 films up to now. We are looking forward to seeing the last opus next year!
After the cinema, we went to the Chinese restaurant « Le Confucius » which is a culinary must for all fans of Oriental cuisine.

Je ne me rappelle pas si nous avons déjà posté un commentaire à propos de notre passion concernant l’oeuvre de J.K. Rowling, mais oui, je vous le confirme, Anne et moi sommes fascinés par les aventures de Harry Potter. Nous avons lu d’innombrables fois les 7 livres (en français, en anglais et en grec), vous comprenez donc que nous ne pouvions pas manquer le 6ème opus des films d’Harry Potter. Ainsi, ce soir, nous sommes allés voir « Harry Potter et le Prince de sang-mêlé » au cinéma. La performance de la plupart des acteurs est exemplaire. «Ron-Ron est hilarant tandis que le regard du professeur Rogue est plus glacial que jamais. Peut-être le meilleur des 6 films jusqu’à ce jour. Nous attendons avec impatience le dernier opus qui sortira l’année prochaine.
Après le cinéma, nous sommes allés au restaurant chinois « Le Confucius » qui est un must culinaire incontournable pour tous ceux qui aiment la cuisine orientale.

Angels & Demons

Tonight, we saw "Angels & Demons" at the cinema, while Alex spent the afternoon at his grandparents', playing in the garden with his cousin Lilly. It was a good movie, based on Dan Brown's excellent book. A good mystery, and a good sequel to the "Da Vinci Code".

Ce soir, nous avons vu "Angels & Demons" au cinéma, pendant qu'Alex passait l'après-midi chez ses grands-parents, à jouer au jardin avec sa cousine Lilly. C'était un bon film, basé sur l'excellent livre de Dan Brown. Un bon mystère, et une bonne suite au "Da Vinci Code".

The boy in the striped pyjamas

Tonight, Alex stayed home with his grandparents, as we went to the cinema. "The boy in the striped pyjamas" is probably one of the saddest movies we have seen, which raises, among other things, the issue of the importance of properly educating our children about their environment, be it physical or political. It his a heartbreaking account of friendship and innocence in a terrifying world of war and hatred.

Ce soir, Alex a resté à la maison avec ses grands-parents, et nous sommes allés au cinéma. "The boy in the striped pyjamas" est probablement l'un des films les plus tristes que nous ayons vu, qui nous fait réfléchir, entre autres, à l'importance d'expliquer comme il faut à nos enfants leur environnement physique et politique. Il s'agit d'une histoire déchirante d'amitié et d'innocence dans un monde terrifiant de guerre et de haine.

The Reader

Tonight, we saw the amazing movie "The Reader". The story of a dilemma: what would you do if you knew a secret that could save someone's life, but you knew that person didn't want that secret revealed, whatever the cost? A story of love, innocence, atrocities and secrets.

Ce soir, nous avons vu "The Reader". L'histoire d'un dilemne: que feriez-vous si vous connaissiez un secret qui pourrait sauver la vie de quelqu'un, mais que vous saviez que cette personne refuserait que ce secret soit révélé, quel qu'en soit le prix? Une histoire d'amour, d'innocence, d'atrocités et de secrets.

Ricky

Alexandros is getting used to spending some time at home with his grandmother now, as we go to the movies! We saw French movie "Ricky", which was a bit of a disappointment. The story of a baby boy born with wings, it could have been magical and moving, but was down-to-earth and not very interesting.

Alexandros commence à avoir l'habitude de passer du temps à la maison avec sa Mamie pendant que nous sortons au cinéma! Nous avons vu "Ricky", qui était un peu décevant. L'histoire d'un bébé né avec des ailes, le film aurait pu être féérique et émouvant, mais était plutôt terre-à-terre et peu intéressant.

Gran Torino

Tonight, Alexandros stayed home with his grandmother, while we went to the movies again and saw "Gran Torino". Another masterpiece by Clint Eastwood.

Ce soir, Alexandros est resté à la maison avec sa Mamie, et nous sommes retournés au cinéma voir "Gran Torino". Un autre chef-d'œuvre de Clint Eastwood.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Tonight, we went out for the first time without Alexandros, to celebrate Valentine's Day and the second anniversary of our first date. We went to the movies, and saw " The Curious Case of Benjamin Button ", which is an exceptional movie, although it doesn't have much in common with the original book by F. Scott Fitzgerald. After the movie, we had a wonderful dinner at one of our favorite restaurants, Jaïpur. We succeeded in calling only twice to check on our baby, who had stayed home with his grandparents!

Ce soir, nous sommes sortis pour la première fois sans Alexandros, pour célébrer la Saint Valentin, ainsi que le deuxième anniversaire de notre premier rendez-vous. Nous sommes allés au cinéma voir " The Curious Case of Benjamin Button ", un film exceptionnel bien qu'il n'ait pas grand-chose à voir avec le livre de F. Scott Fitzgerald sur lequel il est basé. Après le film, nous sommes allés diner dans l'un de nos restaurants préférés, Jaïpur. Nous n'avons appelé que deux fois pour vérifier que tout allait bien avec notre bébé, qui était resté à la maison avec ses grands-parents!

Mamma Mia

Last night we saw "Mamma Mia" at the cinema. It was great fun. Even Akis, who usually does not like musicals, was conquered!



Hier soir nous avons vu "Mamma Mia" au cinéma. Nous nous sommes beaucoup amusés. Même Akis, qui pourtant n'aime d'habitude pas les comédies musicales, a été conquis!

Bruges

We just spent three days and three nights in the beautiful city of Bruges. We saw lots of pretty places, took a boat ride on the canals, ate great food, and bought lots of chocolate. We will definitely be going back there someday, as we had such a great time.

Oh. And if you wish to « feel » what we experienced in Bruges (though with slightly less violence), don’t hesitate to run and see the Martin McDonagh movie “In Bruges”, an excellent 2008 action/comedy/drama/crime film. Lol.

Nous venons de passer trois jours et trois nuits dans la magnifique ville de Bruges. Nous avons vu plein de jolis endroits, fait du bateau sur les canaux, mangé de la bonne bouffe, et acheté plein de chocolat. Nous y retournerons certainement un jour, puisque nous y avons passé un moment si agréable.
